Abstract: The intellectual development of university and college students has been investigated by a number of researchers. One widely-used model for understanding changes in how students learn, think, reason and understand was proposed by William Perry in 1970. Perry limited his investigation to male undergraduates. His model has since been modified by Mary Belenky, Blythe Clinchy, Nancy Goldberger and Jill Tarule (1986) who explored women’s intellectual development and by Marcia Baxter Magolda (1992) who conducted research with both male and female college students.
