Abstract: Verbs "to be" and "to have" are normally regarded as basic essentials that learners of English have to pay special attention to in the process of their learning of the language. In like manner, learners of the French language encounter the task of learning the equivalents, that is to say, verbs "etre" and "avoir", which are quite commonly used whether in spoken or written French. Therefore, one of the highly significant tasks that learners of French are required to consider is to learn the basic rules that govern the usages of verbs "to be" and "to have" in French.

Keywords: verb to be, verb to have.
