The Role of Rubrics in promoting and Assessing Student Learning Ibrahim Abdulrahman Ahmed Department of English Language, Faculty of Education, Koya University http://koyauniversity.org Abstract: A rubric is a multi-purpose scoring guide for assessing student products and performances. This tool works in a number of different ways to advance student learning, and has great potential for students. In addition, rubrics improve teaching, contribute to sound assessment, and are an important source of information for program improvement. In this seminar, we will be discussing key features of a quality rubric, present some examples of rubrics for assessing social science topics in general and language learning in particular, and describe basic steps in designing effective rubrics. There are two main types of Rubrics: holistic and analytic rubrics and both of them will be explained and illustrated with examples.
